Q & A...your thoughts and questions, my thoughts and answers.
3 day waiting period to shampoo after [keratin] treatment is now shortened to 1 day?

I've been asked this question a couple of times now, I so I contacted the Keratin Complex people to verify.

"I have a question: I met a woman from LA recently who also had her hair straightened using the Coppola product at a salon in LA. She said that the 3 day waiting period to shampoo after treatment is now shortened to 1 day - have you heard anything about that?"

This was their reply:

Hi Lee,

The 3 day waiting period to shampoo has not changed. For clients who want to keep more of their curl, they can wash after 24 or 48 hours. Clients who want as much curl out as possible should wait the full 72 hours. As the treatment builds the more treatments the client has, they may be able to wash sooner, but that won't affect the new growth as much. The frizz is the first thing to leave the hair after the treatment, so if the treatment is primarily for frizz control they can definetly wash sooner.

On The Move! It's official

Joseph Cozza Salon @ Gumps on Maiden Lane is moving to 77 Maiden Lane 2nd Floor.  The 77 Maiden Lane Salon, currently in that space until the end of this year, is closing their doors for business.

77 Maiden Lane Styling Department
We are updating the space during the first two weeks of the new year and are scheduled to move in around January 19th, 2010.
I'm very exited.  The new venue is spacious and modern.

I feel like I have a whole new "me" thanks to you!

It's hard to describe how tickled I was to get this review. I just had to add this to the blog.

Hi Lee,

I cannot believe how amazingly beautiful my hair is. I have NEVER received the number of compliments on my hair like the ones I get now.
I feel like I have a whole new "me" thanks to you! I feel so happy and I know that even without makeup, the happiness shows on my face.
It has given me an entirely new outlook. And my hair has NEVER been so shiny, smooth and healthy. What a difference. I should be on a commercial! I will send you the before and after pictures so you can freely show them to your clients.

Thank you, Lori!

I want you to say, WOW!

This week at work (Joseph Cozza Salon in San Francisco) I got a call from a client, Leslie, who we did some Balayage on who felt so inspired to call me afterward to say "Wow, thank you Lee, this is the best color I've ever had, please note the formula."

When that happens, it makes me feel like my 24 years in the biz what the right choice.  That not only made my day, but now she has given me positive reinforcement attached to the work I did, and I will never for get it.  She'll get exactly that next time.  Good move on her part.

Likewise every once in a while when a new client isn't quite so happy with the result, I want to know right away, not two weeks later, so I can make any necessary adjustment. And so I can remember what was done moving forward.  The clients I redo usually turn out to be some of the most loyal clients in the end.  So it's win/win.

I want to make it right.  I want you to say, Wow, this is the best."

Cheers,

Seasonal Color Change? Be Prepared, Create a Look Book.

I love how the Sun’s precession of light across the Earth’s ever-changing color schemes creates fresh color palates though the seasons for us to play with. I love to help my clients express that in their hair color, to reflect the seasonal trends and change in mood.

The holidays are a time when I find that my clients often want a little something special, however subtle or bold.  Reds are big this time of year, deeper, richer and brighter. Looks great with all the greenery on the scene.   Brunettes want to tone down the summer honey pieces to smoldering chestnut, toffees and chocolate and blonds want to see a more elegant tone without loosing their sparkle.

My advice: be prepared.  Do a little homework.  Start a Look Book and bring it with you when you go shopping and when you come to see your hair designers.  Keep it in a handy binder or take it mobile--keep it on your phone or on the web. If you know how to access your online photo album—I have a laptop at my station and we can use during the consultation. Book an extra 15 minutes if you really want to take some time to do a little extra brainstorming before we begin. Colorists like me love all the tools we can use to make sure we hit the target with your perfect look.
